I’ve never really been the kind of girl who needs an excuse to enjoy a taco or margarita, but hey, if there’s a special going on, then all the more reason to!
It was Friday night in LA and Kristen and I ubered over to our dinner date at Frida Mexican Cuisine on South Beverly Drive. I’d never been there before, but had definitely heard of the chain of restaurants, so was excited to see what Frida is all about!
First of all, South Beverly Drive is one of my favorite streets for dinner, lunch and generally chilling. It’s so charming! It’s close to Rodeo Drive and embodies the glitz and glamour of Beverly Hills, but with a homey, neighborhood vibe.
The ambience at Frida is fantastic. The place is well lit, in all the right ways, with candles and lanterns, and there’s a cool bar area in the corner. The tables are spacious yet cozy. I snapped this photo from our corner table right near the window overlooking Beverly Drive.
The manager was so delightful as she escorted us to our table, and as soon as we sat down, we were greeted with chips and salsa. In my opinion, you can always tell how good a Mexican restaurant is going to be based on the chips and salsa… and we were definitely off to a great start (the red was my fave)!
Now for the most important part… the drinks! My go-to cocktail is always the jalapeño margarita, and Frida makes a great one! I love that everything they use for their cocktails is fresh, even the lime juice. I opted to mix in some watermelon with my jalapeño, and it was delicious!
Frida is known for its modern interpretation of classic dishes and its insistence on only using high quality, fresh ingredients. You can never go wrong with fresh, especially when it comes to guacamole! Check out this video to see how they prepared it for us, table side. You can customize your own guac experience at Frida with fresh jalapeños, onions, tomatoes, salt and more!
I’m a big ceviche fan, especially after visiting Puerto Rico, so for me, the ceviche was a must try. I had the Frida Ceviche, made with fresh white fish, jicama, carrots, red onions, jalapeños and their special sauce. YUM!!! It was my favorite part of the meal.
Kirsten and I opted to share the Pescado a la Talla with an extra side of grilled veggies. The portions are really big at Frida, so it was a good idea to share. The fish is grilled and marinated with a three-chili sauce and served with rice, beans and fried plantains. It was delicious!
We were so full that we didn’t order dessert, but the table next to us ordered one, which looked amazing. I’ll have to come back again to try it before going too overboard on the tortilla chips 😉 Check out the full menu at Frida Beverly Hills here.
We will definitely be back for Taco Tuesday, Margarita Monday, and every other day that ends in “Y”! Thank you so much for the team at Frida for having us! See you again, soon!
