Choosing your ensemble to make up the perfect outfit in the morning can take a lot of time. Sometimes we have to forgive the men in our lives for complaining about how long we spend getting ready! Alas, it is important we get it right. Looking good means we are feeling good, and projecting the right image to reflect who we are and what we are about is an art in itself. Without at least some thought going into our appearance, we would feel like we weren’t really ourselves.

When it comes to preparing to get ready, the majority of us start with our clothing and build up the look from there. While we might always look best in a dress or a skirt, the weather hasn’t been so kind lately. Trousers have definitely made a big comeback for this last season as we are all shivering through feet of snow. Whether it something tailored or pants that are a bit more weather proof, we have all had to cover up our legs and wear something practical recently.

Even wearing trousers, we can still look incredibly feminine and even quite chic. Add a belt with a bit of glam, to emphasize your waist, making it look slim. If you are naturally quite long legged, you can get away with a lovely short jacket with hood or even leather bomber look. Layer up the top half to see you through the snow, wind, subway and office temperatures. Put the easy to remove layers like a tunic style cardigan on top, over one or two thinner sweaters. A cami and a vest top may be enough under those and should avoid your feminine shape looking too chunky too. Here are some of TGIFgudie’s favorite street style looks from around the web!

Finally, grab a cashmere scarf. There are plenty of different ties to use or change from one to another when you arrive at the office. Scarves are a great way to accessorize in colder weather. While necklaces and costume jewelry can bring an outfit to life, a scarf can make the outfit and keep some of the cold out at the same time. You can even use your scarf around your waist instead of a leather belt to create a softer, more flowing look.

Footwear in bad weather is tricky to get right. You want something to prevent you slipping and getting wet as you walk, but you still want to look like a woman rather than a snow trekker! Faux fur trim boots look great with skirts or trousers and will prevent your trouser cuffs getting stained on the sidewalk. Alternatively, pick some heels that you can have new soles with extra grip added. Leather will always look great whatever the weather but may need a good wipe to get rid of the salt.

If you are heading out into the weather, look fabulous by using your cashmere scarf to cover your hair, protecting it from the cold, and creating a beautiful chic look. There are many uses for a luxury scarf, so investing in one is never a bad idea. Add a splash of winter shade lipstick and a strong eyeliner to finish that classic look.
