Rather than spending your vacation in the city this summer, you may want to think about heading into the real outdoors. I’m talking about somewhere like the Australian outback or the sweeping hills and deep forests of America. It can still be a brilliant vacation, and if you think there’s nothing to do in the country, you couldn’t be more wrong. There are lots of fun activities that will be the perfect way to spend your vacation. But first, you’ve got to think about how to plan this rather different type of holiday. Let’s start by looking at some of the things that you’ll need.

Travel & Accommodation          The first thing you’ll need to think about is how you’re going to travel and where you’re going to stay. Obviously, if you’re heading out into the wild, you’re not going to be booking a hotel and spa. Rather your options are limited between camping or renting an RV. You could also purchase a travel trailer. This is like an RV, but it fits onto the back of your vehicle. That gives you more freedom to explore without hauling around a big bulky vehicle all the time. You can park up and travel around in your far smaller car.

If you are taking a car, make sure that it’s off road ready. Get the right wheels for those rougher terrains. This is going to make your life a lot easier. You don’t want to be in the position where you’re struggling to get your car free because it’s the wrong type of vehicle. Particularly, when you don’t know the type of terrain, you’ll be camping on.

Buy Some Gear          I also suggest that you buy some extra camping gear that might come in handy. For instance, unless you’re skilled at camping, I suggest you look into buying a portable heater and perhaps a battery. This will give you a lot more freedom on where you set up camp. You won’t always need to park up on a campsite. You’ll be able to explore different regions by yourself. You might also like to purchase some gear for camping activities. If you’ve never tried fishing, this might be the time to have a go. It’s not for everyone, and it does require quite a lot of patience. But it can be rewarding to make a great catch.

Check Out Some Different Sites          You might want to have a look at the different campsites around the area that you’re visiting. Ideally, you want to find a campsite with good ratings. If you’ve never gone camping before you do want to stay on an official site. Otherwise, you might run into issues that you won’t know how to handle. For instance, it can be fun if you find a beautiful, secluded area to set up camp. But it won’t be if you later discover that it’s private property. You can find out what the best campsites are by region online.

I hope you have fun in the outdoors this year and come back with plenty of stories to tell.
