New York City has been established as one of the true metropolises of the world. It can be overwhelming, infuriating and magical. But it’s not the only thing there is to see in New York. No, in this article, we’re looking beyond the city. To the places you can drive for a really great time. We’ll be taking you to New York State and beyond. We’re bound to stop at some places that have something for everyone.

Lake George       If you want proof that New York is more than just its city, you need to look at its backyard. Lake George has to be amongst the most impressive backyards in the world. Natural beauty, idyllic boat rides and a bit of wine tasting can make for the perfect afternoon. Even Lake George Village has plenty to offer in terms of great music festivals.

Some of the best roads in the state       For a lot of people, the roads matter just as much to the road trip as the stops on the way. That’s something we can definitely agree with. Being able to stop your RV at the side of the road to sleep by some gorgeous scenery is not to be underestimated. For New York State, one of those drives that needs to be taken is the Thousand Island Seaway trail. It’s a big trip, but worth it for those ambitious travelers.

The Hudson Valley       Speaking of scenic retreats, the Hudson Valley and the Catskills are places you have to at least sidle up to on your journey out from New York. One of the stops that is most worth taking in particular is the kind of log houses you can see at the foot of the Catskills. If you’re willing to take a bit more time, get a bit of adrenaline on your trip by having a try of the mountain slopes.

A blast from the past       New York City, County and the surrounding area is just full of history. From castles to royal gardens. One of the most atmospheric and truly interesting is Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Not just famous for the legend of the Sleepy Hollow, it’s a worth stop all of its own. This graveyard looks like it was lifted straight out of a gothic novel and it just gorgeous as it is a solemn stop.

Something for the kids (or just the big kid inside you)       Once known as the ‘Playground of the World’, Coney Island may not be the showstopper it once was. But it can still be a great time, with a lovely (though noisy) beach. As of last year, you can now also drive over, so it can be a great curiosity as a stop on the road trip. The park is well worth a leisurely stroll, as well.

I hope this article has done well at convincing you there’s plenty to see outside the splendor of New York City. Hope in your car and take a trip for yourself. You won’t regret it.
