Accessorizing is an important part of putting your outfit together. If you don’t accessorize properly, you won’t do your outfit justice. The accessories you wear can literally make or break an outfit! Some people worry about going OTT and looking more trashy than flashy. These tips will help you to get it just right!

Work With the Neckline of Your Top Half — Your neckline is everything, and probably the first place you should look when you’re accessorizing. If you have a high neckline, you can sometimes get away with wearing a long/medium chained necklace, but never a choker. If you have a lower neckline, you might feel uncomfortable wearing a long chain, as it can bring more attention to your cleavage. Your neckline can also affect your earring choice. If you have a really fussy, complicated neckline, long earrings might look ‘too much’. A bardot style neckline can look fabulous with a choker style necklace.

Take Your Hairstyle Into Account — Your hairstyle is as much an accessory as everything else, so take that into account. If you like, you can use hair accessories to funk up your outfit. They don’t have to be sparkly either; bandanas can work well with a casual outfit. Nice earrings are a must if you’re having your hair up!

Carefully Put Together Your Ring Lay Out — I love wearing rings, whatever I’m doing. However, you’ll want to carefully put together your ring lay out. You don’t want to wear them on random fingers. Stacking rings, midi rings, and statement rings can all be worn together, but you need to pay attention to the way you’re laying them out. You can even wear different metals together, but you should keep it to one metal per finger.

Take Off the Last Thing You Put on — This isn’t always necessary, but if you feel OTT, take off the last thing you put on. It can stop you from looking too done up without ruining your look. I love wearing diamond jewelry for a night out, but some people might find it too much. It’s all down to your own personal preference.

Pick a Theme and Stick to it — Pick a sort of theme for your accessories and stick to it. For instance, you can go for bold, glam colourful, or vintage. Mixing styles is possible, but it needs to be done very carefully, and can sometimes go wrong. It isn’t your best bet if you want to avoid going OTT.

Use the 12 Point Rule  — The 12 point rule is a really simple way to make sure you haven’t over accessorized. Basically, each one is worth 1 point. 1 point for each shoe if they are bold, 1 point per earring, per ring, etc. Add them up and as long as you don’t go over 12, you should be fine!

Use these tips next time you’re accessorizing and you should get it just right. I hope they work for you and you love your look!

See you back here soon!
