The year is 1945. During World War II, Freddy Spencer Chapman D.S.O, a British Colonial, was in hiding from the occupying Japanese army. For 3 1/2 years he hid in the wild jungles of Malaya, until he finally made his escape. It was his love for nature and wildlife that kept him going despite the fearful conditions. When he finally made his escape, Chapman documented the beauty and tranquillity he experienced on Pangkor Laut in his book, ‘The Jungle is Neutral’.

Fast forward to May, 2016. Inspired by Chapman’s determination and endurance, Pangkor Laut Resort will be hosting the first-ever Chapman’s Challenge on May 14, 2016.
The Chapman’s Challenge will consist of a 2.35-mile run around the private island, a 1.5-mile hike through its two million-year-old rainforest and a 0.6-mile swim at the award-winning Emerald Bay before concluding at Chapman’s Bar (which marks the point where Chapman escaped via submarine). There’s no better way to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the island and take a trip back in time.
