The East Coast states of North Carolina and South Carolina don’t attract the same headlines as some of the other American states nearby, but don’t be fooled into thinking that there is nothing to see and do. From the big cities to the quiet coastal getaways, all kinds of traveler will be catered for and they are both idea as affordable vacation destinations. If you have never thought about traveling here before, this guide is here to take you through the top five things to enjoy while you are here.

Charleston

Probably the most famous of destinations in the Carolinas, the coastal city of Charleston is packed with charms and wonders. For those with an interest in history, a stroll through the downtown area will give you plenty of information to take in. For those wanting to capture the perfect photograph, The Battery and Rainbow Row areas are two of the most picturesque in the area. And for those who want to simply soak up some sun, the beach is right on your doorstep. On top of all this, you can enjoy some fabulous southern cuisine.

Asheville

The North Carolina mountain town of Asheville has gained a lot of plaudits for its vibrant arts scene and microbrew culture. If you would like to get out into nature, the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway are right there and ripe for exploration. And for those with a keen eye for architecture, you simply must see the beautiful 19th century Biltmore Estate (pictured above).

Outer Banks

Head out to the Outer Banks on the coast of North Carolina and you will be met with local shops, sprawling beaches and a bucket-load of southern hospitality. Take a look at Baymont Inn & Suites Kitty Hawk Outer Banks if you want to stay here. And best of all, this is a place which is still largely undiscovered, meaning that you can get away from the crowds and enjoy some peace and quiet.

Hilton Head

If the Outer Banks isn’t quite luxurious enough for you, you may be the kind of person who would prefer a trip out to Hilton Head. While it tends to cater for a more upmarket crowd, it still offers that leisurely pace of life which so many people are looking for. And for lovers of golf, you will be pleased to know that Hilton Head has the nickname ‘Golf Island’!

Greenville

The last entry on our top five list is up in northwest South Carolina, and though you may not have heard of Greenville before, it is quickly establishing a stellar reputation as a centre of culinary excellence. More than 100 restaurants line up side by side on Main Street for you to sample. But beyond this, it is also situated in a very beautiful location at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

So, if you have now been inspired to visit the Carolinas for yourself, these are just a few of the sights to take in during your time in this special part of the world.
