If you asked 100 locals what the best way to see America is, you’d have more than a few reply with just two letters: RV. You want to hit all these different land marks, but you don’t want to be shot around on busses or spend a fortune on accommodation. When you have an RV, you simply just plot out where you want to go and join the dots! If you’re thinking of buying your first RV, here’s the three main types you’ll be looking at.
Class A Motorhomes
When you hear the term “RV”, you probably imagine a Class A motorhome. These are a larger class of RV, and a fully hospitable residence on wheels. Many of these models will have a living room with a large, comfortable sofa, a nice big dining area and modern TVs. You’ll have access to a full kitchen with an oven, microwave, refrigerator and maybe even a dishwasher. All this space makes Class A’s the closest you can get to a home on wheels, and that’s without counting the slide-out rooms you may be able to get. For particularly long trips, this is probably the model for you. Just bear in mind that the size of a class A motorhome can make it very hard to manoeuvre, and extremely expensive! That’s not to say you can’t get some great deals at a trusted RV dealership.
Class B Motorhomes
This is a model for shorter trips, making them a favourite among American fishermen and hunters. Class B motorhomes are commonly known as campervans, and are pretty much a condensed version of class As. All the living features and craftwork are compacted into one vehicle, albeit a smaller, snub-nosed vehicle. Travelling around the country in this, you’ll have less trouble finding spots to stop for the night, and enough facilities for two to three people. Most class Bs come with a small kitchen, bathroom and TV. However, the more compact size means that it won’t be all that comfortable simply to chill out in. If your trip will be short enough for this not to be a problem, then a class B could be the perfect option for you.
Travel Trailers
Okay, these aren’t technically RVs, but they serve the exact same purpose and do a great job of it depending on what you need from it. They’re lightweight enough to be towed by most pickups, SUVs, and the odd minivan. Just make sure that your vehicle is right for the job before putting any money down. The newest models of travel trailers include slide-outs, designer interiors, built-in generators and even satellite-enabled TV. At the same time, you can buy far more minimalist models if you’re travelling on a budget. One of the best features about these is that they can be detached from your vehicle, giving you the flexibility to see as much as you want, when you want. If you want a versatile option with a wide spectrum of price tags, then a travel trailer is certainly something to consider.
