Time, stress, lack of sleep or an adventurous evening the night before? All of these things can mean getting up when your alarm goes off and making yourself gorgeous for the day ahead, somewhat ….problematic. But by being clever and rocking a minimalist French casual wardrobe, you can ensure that at least your outfit always looks as good as possible. Read on to find out more.

A capsule wardrobe         So what is this minimalist French capsule I speak of? Well it’s a low maintenance, low-cost way of buying and styling your clothes. It means that means no matter what’s in the wash, or what the weather is outside you will have some pieces available that will look great together. Even if you just sling them on. Below you will find a guide on how to put one together.

Tops          First of all let’s look at tops like shirts, blouses, and t-shirts. How many have you got at the moment? 10, 15, 20? Well, then you may be a little shocked to find out you should cut this down to just four. Yep, four is all you really need if you do it right.

What should those four look like? Well, they should include a plain white shirt, a striped Breton top, a black top and a white top of your choice. Just remember that they need to fit you like a dream. As this will improve the look of your outfit each and every time you wear them.

Jackets          Then there is the second layer to consider. Here it’s best to go for three main items, with the addition of a winter coat when the weather turns. This should include a belted trench coat, a denim jacket, and a leather jacket. Although you can replace the leather jacket with a blazer if that’s more your style.

Color wise keep it neutral and up to date with stone wash denim, blacks, and tans. Or if you are feeling a little adventurous why not try a little gray?

Shoes        Before we go into detail on the bottoms you need to choose for you capsule, it would be remiss of me to not include a note on footwear.

There are many different shoe types out there, and some are needed for specialist activities such as exercising or dancing. By all mean keep these, but also ensure that you have three pairs that perfectly match in with you capsule to wear every day.

In the summer these can be flip flops, ballet pumps, and sandals. While in the winter you can rock a high leg boot, ankle boots, and some pumps. Then you will always have the perfect footwear to go with your perfect outfits!

Bottoms         Lastly, you will, of course, need something to wear on the bottom as well. These can be either trousers, or skirts, or a mix of the two.

A combination that works well with this wardrobe is a pair of skinny jeans in black or denim blue, a pair of fitted black trousers, a black skirt, length of your choosing, and some leggings for more relaxed days. Then you can combine these with the tops and jackets above for a myriad of options.
