In world of cocktails there is a clear difference between drinks which are perceived as cocktails for guys and drinks made for girls. While the female cocktails are usually very fruity and sweet, those made for guys are much stronger and sour. This is usually the rule for most alcohol drinks in general. However, the fact that something is a bit stronger doesn’t mean that opposite sex can’t enjoy it. When we talk about cocktails, it all comes down to taste and preferences.

Long Island Iced Tea is an iconic cocktail that packs quite a punch. As it name implies this cocktail originates from Long Island, New York. But, there are some sources that claim that it was first made in Tennessee. Whatever may be the case, this drink was purposely created to resemble an ice tea, with its sour taste. Two ingredients contribute to this, Coca-Coal and lemon juice. When you try the drink for the first time, you can quickly realize there is a big difference between regular ice tea and this one. The cocktail is made from few different types of liquor which is making it quite strong. Furthermore, if you are inexperienced, the sweet and sour taste could lure you. After a bit, you will find yourself a table, not knowing what hit you.

Long Island Tea
1.5 cl Tequila
1.5 cl Vodka
1.5 cl White rum
1.5 cl Triple sec
1.5 cl Gin
2.5 cl Lemon juice
3.0 cl Gomme Syrup
1 dash of Cola

It is quite easy to make this cocktail. Just put all the ingredients into a glass filled with ice, stir a bit to mix all the parts and garnish with a lemon. Cocktail is served in a highball or long glass (the second reason why it is called long).

The drink has nice dark brown and black color, similar to that of Coca-Cola. It goes rather smoothly for a beverage that is so rich in alcohol. This is just the thing for long and hot summer. Although it is quite nice and sweet, bartenders from D.W. Alexander – one of the newest lounges in Toronto recommend that you drink it slowly for maximum pleasure.
