The old saying goes, “if the shoe fits, wear it.” Well then, I’m hoping that all of the shoes featured at the Killer Heels exhibit, now on display at the Palm Springs Art Museum, are available in my size, especially these Zaha Hadid’s! 😉
Organized by the Brooklyn Museum, Killer Heels made it’s way to Palm Springs on September 5th this year and is open to the public until December 13th.
Names like Céline, Christian Dior, Salvatore Ferragamo, Chanel, Christian Louboutin, Alexander McQueen, Prada, and United Nude represent timeless and unforgettable designs.
As opposed to being organized by shoe type, the heels are positioned for observers to take them in on a more artistic level. Whether the shoe challenges the standard in terms of height, unusual materials, wearability or architectural daring, innovation is the key component.
The exhibit traces the evolution of the heel from when the shoes were a menswear staple in the eighteenth century courts to the architectural phenomena they have become in recent years.
High heels are so much more than shoes; they are a reflection of our culture and an embodiment of what matters to mankind. Whether we cover our feet for strict functionality or pure expression, the shoes say a lot about the wearer!
Featuring more than 110 contemporary high heel designs by over 50 designers, and more than 50 heels pulled from the archives of the Brooklyn Museum and Metropolitan Museum of Art’s renowned costume collections.
Here’s a sneak peek of what I saw, but if you’re in the area, be sure to stop by yourself! See the bottom of this post for more info 🙂
Even if you’ve spent every last penny on your latest pair of heels, the Palm Springs Art Museum is open late on Thursday evenings, so even the most frugal fashionistas can visit the exhibit for FREE from 4pm – 8pm.
