Obi Cymatica is one of New York’s newest talents, and he’s definitely found the way into our hearts here at TGIFguide. His eye for design and illustration earned him a place working for fashion greats such as Jimmy Choo, Oscar De La Renta, and BCBG -and you can only guess where that lead him!
With his love for artful designs and, of course shoes, Obi Cymatica took the plunge and launched his own signature line of shoes. Here’s a look at some of our favorites!
Drawing inspiration from the modern woman, the Obi Cymatica brand has recently launched its first Fall collection, which celebrates the unique strength of the woman’s spirit through such bold colors and unique textures mixed with dramatic silhouettes.
Not one to follow rules, Obi Cymatica uses embellishments, metallic patent leather, and fine mesh inserts to add a point of difference to each individual design. Obi has worked tirelessly to bring his artistic vision to life. This debut collection will certainly leave his unique mark on the fashion industry for seasons to come. How did OBI Cymatica first begin? It all started with my love for women’s shoes and the idea of me trying to turn my shoe sketches into reality, turning my passion into a reality.
What does it take to create the perfect shoe? It takes A Pen, Pencil, Paper and alot of time. Once it’s done, its no longer the perfect shoe TO the designer. “We are on to the next shoe.”
Who are some of your favorite people to dress? Well I am a big fan of Angelina Jolie, I love Zoe Saldana, Eva Mendez, Florence from Florence & the Machine.
What’s the most challenging part of designing / launching a shoe line? Launching a shoe line is a pricy undertaking to handle and also trying to set my brand apart from every other brand.
What’s your favorite historic shoe-moment? Oh shoe moment?! I don’t know.. I really loved the fashion moment in the movie Memoirs of a Geisha (one of my favorite movies).
What’s next for OBI Cymatica? Many more shoes and more collaborations too.
