The historic city of St Louis, located on the border of Missouri and Illinois is a wonderful place to take a vacation. But what exactly should you do when you get there? Well, read on to get the full lowdown on where to eat, where to visit, and what to see.

Key Attractions     Of course, the one thing that you definitely don’t want to miss when visiting St Louis is that famous Gateway Arch. Luckily it stands at 192m tall so you can see it pretty, much all over the city. Did you know that you can take a tram all the way to the top, for the measly cost of $13? But arrive early as this attracted get pretty packed on the day.

It isn’t just the arch that attracts visitors from all over the USA, but the Saint Louis Zoo as well. This institution is not only open to the public but is also a global center for animal care and zoological studies.

It’s voted as America’s top free attraction, and there you can visit the Black Milk Snake in the reptile house and bigger critters such as Hippopotami.

Getting back to nature     Now, if you love the city, by also like to feel that you are in nature too, then there are a few places in St Louis that you just shouldn’t miss.

Forest Park on Grand Drive for one. With all, it’s greenery and fountains. Then there is the Missouri Botanical Gardens where you can see all sort of different garden and activity areas, such as the Japanese Garden and the Climatron.

Of course, while some national parks are a fair trek away from this wonderful city, you can always try the Great Smoky Mountains National Park or Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Which are the closest and have some pretty outrageous views and trails to hike.

Good eating     Now no vacation is complete without treating yourself to some delicious food either, and St Louis is definitely not going to let you down on that front. For the carnivores among you try Carmine’s Steakhouse on 4th Street.

Or, if you are looking for a tasty treat with both meat and vegetarian options, why not find some great Thai food at Lona’s Lil’ Eats. Don’t forget to finish your meal off with molasses cookie too! Just so things don’t get too healthy! You are on vacation after all.

Nightlife      If your main reason for visiting the city of to throw some shapes in the temple of dance then you definitely won’t want to miss Club Viva and The Upstairs Lounge, two of St Louis premier night spots.

But if you are more into a quiet drink with friends, then there are also some pretty sweet bars like Taste that are worth a look.

Fun with the family      Or if it is more of a family oriented vacation that you are after, then why not take the kiddos to visit the World Aquarium? Where you can get up close and personal with Turtles and all manner of sea life. Or spend an afternoon at the St Louis Science Center where you get to not only view the installations but get involved with them as well.
